Savvy and the Kitties

Savvy loves "kitten season," when we take care of orphaned and injured street kittens.

Here is Savvy the first day our most recent rescue, Casper, spent with us. Savvy held him down and licked him until he was soaking wet, repeating it in future days. Casper complained a little bit, but eventually learned to accept being slathered with dog spit. After the third day, Savvy never did it again. In retrospect, he may have been attracted to the snot and runny eyes from Casper's upper respiratory infection--ugh!

Here is a more typical game between Savvy and Casper.

And here is Savvy watching Casper and Happy play together. When the kittens play, Savvy doesn't participate at all. I think he's a bit afraid of Happy, who is big enough to hiss now. :-)

So adorable! I thought you were allergic to cats? Anyhow, good thing you are not here becuase I would be greatly tempted to adopt every kitten :-)

  2. Hi Jennifer, I used to be super allergic to cats. When I was about 30, I had two years of allergy shots for dust, cats, mold, etc. But I always assumed I was still allergic to cats. To my surprise, I haven't had a single problem with any of our nine foster cats in the past year. How are you guys and Benjamin? How are the pets? Is Lucy still alive and well?

    Hi Sharon,

Yes, Lucy's still alive and well :-) She is now 13 years old. She continues to be active but does get tired a bit quicker. Benjamin is loving the pets (Lucy & 3 cats). He knows them by their names. Whenever we ask him where is Polo, he would point to the cat Polo. There are some new pictures of Ben over on Facebook. He is quite good with sign language, and is very active!

Luis is keeping busy teaching high school math and coach for Academic Bowl. A pure nerd ha ha. I know you will enjoy the Academic Bowl, it's almost like Jeopardy. I am still working at ABC Labs, it has been five years now. Many changes have occurred. I finally got around to set up ASL classes at ABC, and taught ASL to several co-workers for several weeks. It was fun. I thought of you, and knew you would enjoy it as well :-)

  4. Hi Jennifer, I just spotted your comment today! I'm so glad that Lucy is still well. What a lucky girl to have found you guys. And Benjamin is lucky to have great parents, and a houseful of nice pets. I'd love to see video of Ben signing--I'll bet he is so much better at expressing himself than a speaking-only child.

You're right--I would have loved the ASL classes. What a great idea to have them at ABC! It's about time some people there figured out how to communicate without Post-it notes. :-) By the way, I've learned very little Turkish here. I realized that when I don't know the Turkish for something, I end up trying to use the ASL sign, then wondering what's wrong with these Turks that they can't understand me! Ha ha! I'm surprised how many I still remember, and I use them every day. Thanks for teaching me!
